Mary Morrison's German Snow Babies
Snow Babies For Sale Page 1
Pic 16.34 This pig on skis is a very difficult piece to find, and here he is in excellent condition. The folks who decided what animals to mold on skis obviously picked the ones that would be seen as the oddest or the most amusing. A pig is both! I do love the way he holds on to his scarf as if that will protect him. The height is 2" $180 SOLD
Pic 9.49 I really loved this piece from the moment I got it! This is not my example, but my feeling for it is the same. The boy is so sweet and so calm. He seems to be adjusting his skate, although he hardly looks old enough to have that skill. His sweater is hooded, and he has patches of snow on his pants, as well. This baby has paint that has been fired on, and as a result his face is like that of an ivory soap baby - beautiful. I believe this piece should have been in Chapter 5. My mistake. The snow is quite different. It is possible that it was painted over - either in the original factory or later. It doesn't seem spoiled in any way. A little over 2" sitting. SOLD
Pic 8.14b The boy looks too shy to say what the sign says for him. I guess he is hoping his sweetheart will walk this way. One of two pieces from different collections unlike any others I've seen. I say this to give you an idea of how uncommon the pieces are. Obviously since these pieces were produced in molds, many examples existed at one time and may still exist. This boy stands in front of a very slender tree trunk vase. The entire piece measures 5.5" $750. Make offer. Offer Accepted, SOLD
Pic 13.67b Santa pulls a large two-wheeled cart. We wonder where his reindeer are. The wheels are painted with gold paint, and notice how many different colors are used to paint the items he is hauling.
The condition of this piece is excellent! But notice that even with the addition of gold painted wheels, the back of the piece is still unpainted for the most part. Almost 2.5" $260. Make offer.
Pic 13.15 This Santa and airplane were molded separately, then Santa was inserted. He doesn't want to budge from his seat, and I wonder how many have tried to remove such Santas and how many pieces were broken that way. This is the only unbroken example I've seen, although there are many sleighs with separate Santas. 1.5" $240. Make offer.

Pic 8.41 By Heubach a beautiful young boy lies on another unusual type sled. If there ever was a sled like this, would the runners be bentwood? Heubach used this same pose, both snowed and unsnowed, on containers in Pic 7.7 and 7.8. This piece was made about 1910 and the snow is covered with a glaze that acts to keep it white. It's just another thing that makes owning a snowed Heubach special. There aren't many poses that were snowed, and there aren't many examples of each pose. So in addition to being elegantly posed and carefully painted early pieces, not very many exist today. They are highly prized. 2.67" high, but the size of a 4" baby. SOLD
Pic 7.32b A yellow mitt girl, famed for not only her mitts, but for the unusual hat she wears and her pleated skirt. She appears in different poses on containers and she also stands holding a sled in Pic 8.31. I would love to learn more about her headgear, if any reader knows its history. Notice how carefully the back of the container was finished. She and the boy who is her mate are very rare. The piece measures 4.25" $875. SOLD
This figure is not in my book. I didn't find him in time. I suppose it is not in the strictest sense a snow baby, but to me it fits! I did not realize until I photographed this that there is brown coloring on the boy's face and hands. My eyesight isn't great, and I guess I was so charmed by the piece I didn't notice. I would not sell it except that it just became a duplicate! 2.25+" $85
Hertwig made this piece to be sold both with and without this feather tree branch. It was made both with a hole to anchor the greenery and without. The tree on this example looks like it has been kept in a cabinet all these years. The bisque is unusually clean and beautifully painted as well. Only the holly berry at the top of the tree shows its age. I don't believe you could find a better example of this piece. With the feather tree branch it must have commanded a premium price. And this is truly a goose feather branch. I believe it is as old as the piece, because this piece is from a collection of pieces that were all in outstanding condition! I wish I could have bought them all!.$325 SOLD
